Can "tmp.dll" files in XP Sysdir be deleted?

I have many  _*_.tmp.dll files, example _001110_.tmp.dll, in my System32 directory. Can they be deleted?

I have XP SP3.

Re: Can "tmp.dll" files in XP Sysdir be deleted?

FWIW, I deleted them and so far everything seems ok.  Some confusing information online about whether they are malware or "orphans" of Windows Update process.

If you want a plug-in for them:

[Info]
Title=Temporary DLLs
Description=Deletes Windows Update DLL Orphans

[files]
%sysdir%\*.tmp.dll /s

Welcome smile

Mostly all TEMP files can be removed without issue..

In fact,all files ending in the following extentions can be removed

*.tmp;*.old;*.bak;*.~*;*.gid
